Viral pneumonia is an infection that causes irritation, swelling and congestion in the lungs. The most common symptoms are headache, fever and chills, muscle aches and a cough. Serious cases of viral pneumonia are sometimes treated with antiviral medication, as antibiotics are not effective for treating viral infections.
