A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breasts frequently ordered as part of preventive medical care. Digital mammography replaces X-ray film with solid-state detectors that convert X-rays into electric signals. These detectors are similar to those found in digital cameras. The electrical signals are used to produce images of the breast that can be seen on a computer screen or printed on special films to look like regular mammograms. Note: Estimates include facility fees, as well as fees for the radiologist who reads (interprets) the image.
